EQ recognizes the need for businesses to reduce its impact on the environment. In fact, a portion of EQ’s mission statement is dedicated to this:
We are committed to:
- Minimizing the environmental impacts of our services, operations and products through application of sustainability principles such as recycling, reuse, pollution prevention, emergency preparedness and conservation of materials and natural resources.
EQ offers Sustainable Solutions programs at customer locations across the United States. These services include:
Total Waste Management
Recycling
EQ’s environmental professionals ensure that all implemented sustainability programs comply with federal, state and local requirements. We also have the ability to measure and report necessary information required for our customers’ sustainability and environmental footprint reporting requirements.
Sustainability Organizations
EQ collaborates with members of different organizations to continue education on sustainability as well as the opportunity to learn new ideas and trends that can contribute to the company’s or our customer’s triple bottom line. These organizations include the Southeast Michigan Sustainable Business Forum, Suppliers Partnership for the Environment and the Michigan Recycling Coalition, among others.
EQ’s commitment to the environment
EQ was the pioneer in energy recovery technologies for landfill operations. Started in 1986 at our Belleville, MI location as one of the first landfill gas to energy facilities in the United States, EQ currently collects methane gas produced by decomposing waste and converts it into commercially usable heat and electricity. Our power plant has the capacity to produce 1,550 kilowatt hours of electricity on a continuous basis, enough to power about 1,300 homes. This saves 15,678 tons of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere per year.
EQ’s commitment to our community
EQ is committed to ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our employees, our customers and our community. We also actively engage in our communities, especially where our facilities reside. This engagement includes continued communications with local government officials and business leaders as well as volunteerism activities and donations to schools, non-profits and other non-governmental organizations.
EQ also participates in local environmental leadership events such as Earth Day celebrations, presentations to schools, and household hazardous waste collection days.
